Arrest made after robbery reported at Peoples Bank

LANCASTER – Lancaster Police arrested a man Tuesday evening in connection with a robbery at Peoples Bank on Main Street. 

In a Wednesday news release, Lancaster Police announced James Bertoch III, 35, of Lancaster, was arrested at an area business. 

According to the incident report, witnesses saw a white man with a black hooded coat and gray jacket enter the bank just before 1 p.m.

The release stated Bertoch approached a bank employee and demanded money. According to the release, Bertoch allegedly took an undisclosed amount of cash from the employee and fled the scene on foot. 

Police later located Bertoch around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday and placed him under arrest. 

According to the Fairfield County Common Pleas Court, Bertoch is under $100,000 bond at the Fairfield County Jail. 

Prior records filed through the Common Pleas Court indicate Bertoch has been arrested at least four prior times since 2005. The most recent came in April 2019 when Bertoch was arrested for robbing the Duke and Duchess store on N. Memorial Drive.
